About Captain Sawdust
Bob Jumper’s love of wood and water began in
his early 20’s and has continued for several decades. While
living on the Big Island of Hawaii, he enjoyed surfing the
Kohala Coast and became a scuba instructor and boat captain.
Throughout his adult life, in between and after his
scuba/captain experiences, he has been a building contractor,
finish carpenter, furniture and cabinet maker, boat carpenter
and more. This combination of life experience led him to his
current love of creating handcrafted surfboards, stand up paddle
boards, paddles and skateboards. There is nothing as pure as
riding a hollow wooden board atop nature’s body of water,
whether an ocean wave, calm river or lake.
His newest endeavor includes a collaboration with his oldest
son, Sylas, creating custom longboard skateboard decks. The
Captain fabricates the decks in his woodshop and Sylas, a gifted
artist and lifelong longboarder, creates custom designs on each
deck. These are one-of-a-kind rides made by the father and son
duo with a genetic connection to creativity.
Bob has also handcrafted a cedar strip canoe and kayak used to
explore the Cascade Lakes in Central Oregon and on the Deschutes
River in Bend, Oregon where he lives and makes sawdust.
